2. bohemian - a socially unconventional , non-conformist, especially an artist or writer, of free and easy habits, manners and sometimes morals.

This is a dictionary definition of a bohemian.  I have been one since grade school.

I call my art bohemian because it is unconventional.  I'm a self-taught artist and don't fit exclusively into the art categories:  landscape, figurative, still life, impressionist, abstract, expressionist, realist, etc.  I paint different things and in my own style.

My art comes from my heart which has been affected by my often strange life.  I was a singer in a rock band, drafted in 1965, given LSD by the army, a mercenary in Cambodia, a wrangler, a hippie, a polygamist, a mercenary in Central America,  a carpenter, a student of the world's religions, a shaman and martial artist.  In my studies as a shaman I lived with the Mazatec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico and have eaten the various varieties of psychedelic mushrooms that grow there.  I have eaten peyote with Huichol Indians in Nayarit, Mexico and for years I was a member of the Native American Church (the peyote church) on the Navajo reservation.  Because of the repressive and unconstitutional drug laws of the U.S. I now only take peyote in Mexico.  I travel to northern Mexico and do peyote with a small group of Mexican Indians.  I often take paint with me and paint pictures while on peyote.  NOTE:  I strongly stand against heroine, cocaine, meth, prescription mind altering drugs for recreation, tobacco, and alcohol and other harmful drugs.  I quit taking alcohol and marijuana over 25 years ago.

Fortunately, for over 40 years I have been grounded in the martial arts.  I began training in the Shaolin Tai Chi Chuan, a combat style of the tai chi, in 1968 under Grandmaster Chen Ming Li.  I am ranked Grandmaster in tai chi.  I started training in Karate in 1971 and I'm ranked 5th degree black belt.  The martial arts saved my life and for me is an integral part of my shamanic practice.  I practice it daily and teach a mixed martial art class in self defense for real life street encounters.

To sum up, my life experience has made me who I am today and that in turn makes my art what it is today.

                                                                                                          Peace,

I have been a featured artist on the TV show Texas Country Reporter.  The experience was to open the mind to allow freedom of expression in my art.  See the art and video.
